It develops as glands and tubules admixed with solid nests of squamous cells in a spindle cell background ( 8 ). Low-grade adenosquamous carcinoma of the breast is a variant of metaplastic mammary carcinoma characterized by a locally invasive growth pattern and a low risk for metastases. In this study none of the carcinomas exhibited greater than 5 percent nuclear immunoreactivity for estrogen or progesterone receptors, and as a result they were classified as negative for these receptors. We found ten cases of adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium in one tumor registry in a ten year period, 1967-1977. Five of these cases also had breast carcinoma.
